The Black Currents are Matt Flügger and Gareth Bennett. A band and a mission. Two filmmakers steeped in the studios and vice of Hollywood and blasting their way out.

Gareth is a decorated screenwriter and easily one of the most badass drummers to swing timber. It’s like Keith Moon and Bernard Purdie had a rhythm baby.

Matt would be the first to tell you that he is just visiting this planet. He has been everything from a Blue Man camera guy to a Big 5 studio executive, and now he makes his living as a Showrunner for a series called The Divine Field, which is a clarion call for fellow aliens around the world. That blue 335, which was made on his birthday, was lost in a carjacking and still found its way back to him. Destiny. For all the touring musicians out there: avoid St. Louis.

Together Matt and Gareth create a rowdy chaos that has shaken the walls of clubs like The House Of Blues and The Viper Room. Their shows are a celebration of liberation, sweat, and the primal urge to celebrate the mad collision of wood, steel, electricity and pagan self-determination. Like our song Death Cookie says, ‘Goodbye daily life, hello free will.’

The Black Currents are proud torchbearers of wild, living rock and roll, the finest public art form since war stories were first shouted around the campfire. We humans know we are not going to be here for long, so while we are upright, let’s broadcast that we got the memo. Life is a celebration. Freedom needs a soundtrack.

The Black Currents here for the mission.
